During the fighting that ensues, Ben, one of Jack’s companions, tries to disable the artifact but is immediately overwhelmed by its power. While exploring the cave with his party, Harper cautiously approaches the artifact and gets ambushed by its guardians, a group of altered Turians. Similar to how Commander Shepard came into contact with the beacon on Eden Prime in Mass Effect 1, Harper also stumbled upon a Reaper artifact that would change him forever.
